Artist Statement Paul E Davis is a freelance Artist, Illustrator and muralist specializing in children books and publication. Paul has been creating art for more then 20 years. An accomplished painter and author Paul has also co-published a local news-zine as well as ran a local gallery. I've worked with children for a number of years giving art instruction. I use my artistic talent to teach and inform. Paul has Murals through out Milwaukee area in homes as well as inside public school buildings. He is also the owner of Bookbydaddy illustration and publishing service. The full depth of my company can be seen at www.funkyartworld.com. Paul also has an online cartoon and caricature service www.funkytoons.com. He has been featured on MPTV Black Nouveau and just recently won best of show at Milwaukee's community art and funk festival for a painting of the Tuskeegee Airmen. In his own words he states, “As far back as I can remember, I have always enjoyed drawing and painting. It was something I could not put down, sort of like an addiction. I sometimes jokingly refer to my gift as a compulsive disorder. And that is the distinction I draw when I think about what is a true artist. We artists do it not for the money, not for the pats on the back, but because we have to.”
Paul E Davis is a mostly self taught artist who I enhanced his skill by picking up various books on painting, taking graphic design classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College, and through many years doing portraits and caricatures at local festivals and block parties. “I love painting and I always look forward to my next piece.
My influences come from early envy of comic book artists such as John Bryn and Jack Kirby, as well as fine artists and illustrators such as Vincent Van Gogh, Ernie Barnes, Boris Vallejo and Norman Rockwell.
